$500 Gold Coin Bond
Hand written. Form the label: "This bond is part of an issue of $20,000, dated May, 1866. The proceeds from this bond issue were used for dredging and pulling stumps from the Willamette River. The issue was re-financed a number of times and it was not until 1928, os sixty-two years later, that the issue was finally paid. The interest cost alone was $83,380.00, or more than four times the original principal."
