news clippings regarding labor issues : the Oregon League of Democratic Women host a meeting, "Why we support our Secretary of Labor, Frances Perkins" ; resignation of Dr. Towne Nylander as a regional director of the national labor relations board (NLBR). Nylander in 1937 conducted a hearing Portland in a case involving the Oregon worsted mills and the textile workers' union and in his report charged that the Portland police department conspired with employers to terrorize and intimidate workers ; Arthur M. Tode, honorary president of the Propeller Club of the United States, spoke about the need to do away with controversy between capital and labor ; F. P. Foisie head of the coast Waterfront Employers' association predicts that there is going to be labor trouble on Pacific coast waterfronts this fall.
