Mayor Albee started the Public Safety Commission in 1914, this photograph is presumably comprised of the first Public Safety Commission members by Mayor Albee. The Mayor started this commission to find ways and means for educating the public as well as preventing accidents between street cars, automobiles and the public. The Commission was a non paid volunteer appointment consisting of a representative from the Police Department, the Fire Department, an officer of the Street Railway Company, an official from the southern Pacific Company, Newspaper men, one to two private citizens and the Superintendent of Schools.
