MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor Sam Adams
From: Susan Anderson, Director
Date: March ____, 2009
The Director of the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability recommends the Council accept the 2007-08 State of the River Report. As required annually under Ordinance 178960, the State of the River Report informs the Council, partner agencies and the community on progress toward achieving the River Renaissance Vision.
The Report has been compiled each year since 2005 by the River Renaissance Initiative, which is pleased to present this report to the Council on behalf of the seven Bureaus that comprise it: Environmental Services, Parks, Planning and Sustainability, Transportation, Development Services, the Portland Development Commission, and Water.
The Report is truly a collaborative effort on the part of many staff and the River Renaissance Initiative is grateful for their time and commitment in producing what we hope is an informative report.
This year’s report describes over 30 accomplishments and key actions, sets forth an agenda of 17 river-related actions, and measures impacts through over 20 progress indicators. In addition, it profiles a number of river efforts by upstream communities and highlights key documents relating to riverfront redevelopment and watershed protection.
