Riverfest Core Group Meeting

February 27, 2008

3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

Discovery Center

680 SW Bancroft St.

(map and driving directions: http://www.southwaterfront.com/discovery_center)

Recommended Agenda

(85 of 90 minutes allocated; figure at least 5 minutes of frictional loss…)

1. Introductions (5 m.)

2. Riverfest Recap (10 m.)

This is a quick overview of concept, origin, objectives, and structure. This is where we’d remind group (including newcomers) of what we’re about, our aims, and our structure, including the imminent hiring of an event coordinator. I’d probably do this in the form of a slideshow. And, of course, we also can unveil our logo.

3. Updates on Event Design (20 m.)

a. committee reports

b. individual reports

c. remaining tasks

This is where we learn who’s actually been productive since the last Core meeting, and where they are progress-wise. It will help surface promises of help that are, as of yet, unmet.

4. Discussion: Focusing the Event / Assuring Success (30 m.)

Guiding Questions:

What already-occurring events are high priorities for including in Riverfest?

What new events do we want to create that we can’t live without?

What other organizations or groups should we be talking with?

This is based on Jim’s questions and is intended to focus our energy on realities, necessities, and deliverables. When new events are inevitably suggested, I’d re-direct them to an “overflow” flipchart (or tag them as such in my notes) where they’d dwell until such time as we found enough time, money, and energy to pursue.

5. Riverfest Funding (10 m.)

This is where we’d plant the seed for fundraising help. I’d talk about the City budget process and ask for support; mention the Healy grant application; perhaps ask Stephanie to note the potential under Vision-to-Action and ask Rachel to talk about the Port’s interest; and note the Willamette Fun(d) challenge grant.

6. Closing comments and next steps (10 m.)
