Riverfest 2008
Riverfest takes place over the course of 7 days from Sunday August 31st to Saturday September 5th including the following elements:
Sunday, August 31st – Portland Triathlon
Friday, September 5th – School Field Trips (Restoration & Wildlife Tours)
Saturday, September 6th – Day: Dragon Boat Races & Portland Paddle, Afternoon/Eve: Boat Parade, Eve/Night: Riverfest 2009 Fundraiser & Gala Event on River (partner with TBA, PCS and MusicFest NW)
(Additional/Possible):
-water safety (Daughters of Neptune), river clean-up etc. tabling/education at Waterfront Park (with Dragonboat races or Triathlon)
-partnership with Muddy Boots to host water related theme and lecture series at Philip St. Neri Church (in place of water tabling at Waterfront Park)
-water taxi to Gala Event (for dragonboaters etc.), or water taxi tours (to include S. Waterfront)
-seawall art project link to Triathlon
-Music at Triathlon or Saturday
-Willamette Sailing Club Regatta at S. Waterfront
-S. Waterfront concert/music in park (free tram rides?)

School Field Trips: field based restoration and wildlife observation activities

Budget: Overall Coordinator (May-Sept) $500/mo=$2500 total, On-site Coordinators ($100/ea/day=$300), Ed Supplies/Signage etc. ($1000), Outreach to Schools ($500): Total = $3300
Questions: lead, capacity of ed orgs if also doing restoration etc. on Saturday with families, depending on event date – outreach to schools to inquire about participation

Portland Paddle: get people out on the water, portland boathouse put-in, three paddle lengths (building off of bridge paddle plans – urban, ross island and cathedral park/kelley point) block off part of river to only paddlers?, combine with seawall art showing?,

Notes: 200-250ppl in past years… could also be more of a Tour element… and partner with other water taxi groups (sternwheeler, portland jetboat etc.)
Boat Parade: Organize boat parade on Willamette River, boats parade in like groups (sailboats, motorboats, ‘working’ boats, tugboats, yachts, art boats, etc.). Link Columbia River Yachting Association with local artists for creation of ‘art boats’ – provide matching funds of $500/boat with prizes for best in category!

Notes: Yachters used to decorating with regalia colors (50-75 boats), happy to parade that way, barge art – with tugs!,
River: 100-500ppl, fundraiser, VIP, special invite, government officials, river ppl etc., catering, on boat?, music/film/theater under bridge?
