Dear
You're invited to a design charette and planning meeting to shape what we hope becomes a new signature event for Portland—Riverfest. We’d greatly benefit from your creative, environmental and river-related expertise to make this effort a success.
Wednesday, November 7th
11:30 a.m. -- 1:30 p.m.
Ecotrust Conference Center
721 NW 9th Ave., Second Floor
Portland, OR 97209
Tentatively scheduled for the weekend of September 5-7th 2008, Riverfest is a new event that will celebrate the river running through the heart of Portland, and inspire residents to deepen their connection to, and understanding of this working river.
Created through a partnership among conservation organizations, outdoor recreation and tourism associations, regional businesses, and City bureaus, Riverfest will invite Portland's citizens to enjoy a weekend of river-specific recreation activities, education, and entertainment.
Potential activities include live music, food, a triathalon, educational displays, a boat parade, and boating lessons, as well as waterfront bike rides, water taxis, environmental action pledges, swimming and more. The location of these activities is being thought of as happening not just at one park, but as an embrace along multiple river venues.
Current Partners include:
* River Renaissance
* City of Portland Parks and Recreation
* Oregon Trout
* Salmon-Safe
* Willamette Riverkeeper
* Portland Oregon Visitor's Association
* Portland Boathouse
* Willamette River Fun(d) at Oregon Community Foundation
* City of Portland Triathlon
* Ecotrust
Please join us. We know there are a lot of events in Portland already, and we need your help to discover new ways to inspire people to connect to the river and love where they live.
Please RSVP to me as soon as you can, or feel free to call with questions. I apologize for the short notice (we’re trying to get a running start) and understand if your busy schedule precludes attendance—but hope you’ll allow a future call or visit to get your thoughts.
Thanks for your consideration.
