PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE
The Southeast Uplift Land Use Committee has turned its attention to the issues of urban growth and how they affect Portland neighborhoods. As part of that focus, the Committee will host a special Open Forum on Urban Growth on January 29, 1990 in Southeast Uplifts Fireside Room, 3534 SE Main at 7:00 PM.
The program will begin with a video tape of a lecture given by noted architect Andres Duany. The Portland chapter of the American Institute of Architects kicked off their 1990 series Blueprints for Growth with Mr. Duanys presentation and then generously donated a copy of the video tape to Southeast Uplift.
Mr. Duany speaks eloquently and humorously about the potential negative affects of urban growth and warns that the Portland of the future may not be any better than the Los Angeles of today. His witty examples bring laughter and his suggestions on how to avoid that fate through traditional town planning are thought provoking.
The tape will be followed by an open discussion of urban growth issues as they relate to Portlands developed neighborhoods. Robert Stacey, Portlands Planning Director, and Ethan Seltzer, Metros Land Use Coordinator, will lead and moderate this portion of the program.
All interested persons are invited to attend this informative event. For more details contact Susan Hartnett at 232-0010.
