Project Title/Summary: Outer Southeast Porch Project: Research, design, and build prototype of three flexibly-compatible porches for typical single-story homes in Outer SE area.

 

Description of Project Major Activities and Projected Outcomes:

1) Research and design three flexibly-compatible porches which can be added to typical single-story house in Outer Southeast neighborhoods as a means of improving the street-house interface, upgrading the neighborhood, and encouraging greater homeowner participation in the maintenance and upgrading of their residence and their neighborhood; 2) produce camera-ready master for booklet on how-to adapt and build any of the porch prototypes for a given house, as well as apply for appropriate permits and financing; 3) build three full-scale prototypes of durable, appropriate materials; 4) identify streets, in conjunction with the Outer Southeast Nuisance Abatement Project, which would benefit from the construction of porches and other landscaping recommendations; and 5) work with 5-10 homeowners to use the results of this #1-3 in their homes.

 

How does Project meet Low/Moderate Income Benefit Requirement: Neighborhoods to be included in project are Brentwood-Darlington, Lents, Montavilla, Mt. Scott-Arleta, and Foster-Powell.

 

Amount of Funds Being Requested: $19,950

 

Contributions and/or in-kind donations: Southeast Uplift staff time (Neighborhood Planner and Community Organizer); Portland Community Design donated time; volunteer time from each neighborhood; donated materials and time from businesses in the area (such as Builders Square, Kingsley Lumber, minority contractors interested in the project*)
