Larger Issues Which Seem to Crop Up Occasionally
Apparent communication problems between the Bureau of Planning and Office of Transportation. An example is approving development projects without adequate mitigation of anticipated increased traffic (and, it might be added, insufficient exploration and connection with Tri-Met to assure greater use of public transit options).
The endorsement of a light rail line down Macadam Blvd as the alignment of choice, relying on the results of the KOMAR Report, and seemingly not giving sufficient weight, attention and credibility to either other alignments along the Milwaukie corridor or the readiness of the I-205 corridor to accept the line. Thus, the whole North-South Transit Corridor Study being undertaken by Metro strikes a lot of people as incredibly prejudicial, biased, and a waste of taxpayers money.
The need to implement Transportation Rule 12 and make the entire area more transit-friendly, but, yet, endorsing a widening of Highway 26 to allow even more traffic through the canyon. (Please note that members do recognize the terrible traffic problems between I-405 and the Sylvan exit. They just feel a tremendous irony in adding yet more lanes, and spending less effort on generating more alternative transportation options.)
