Meeting Minutes August 14,2007
The Portland Citizens Disability Advisory Committee meeting was held on August 14, 2007 at Portland City Hall, 1221 SW 4th Ave., Portland, OR 97204 in the Rose Room.
Members Present: David Halseth, Mike Levine, Steve Weiss, Anne O’Malley, Hank Bennett, Trish Baker, Joan Hansen, Ann Balzell and Mike Delman.
Excused Absent: Jan Campbell, Nancy Hesselman, Beth Omansky and Martha Simpson.
Unexcused Absent: Lynn Calloway
Staff Present: Nickole Cheron
Guests: Christina Turner with Ride Wise
Meeting was called to order at 1:45 PM by Vice Chair Mike Levine.

of Agenda: Agenda was approved.

June Minutes: June minutes were approved.
Public Comment: There was no public comment.
Announcement: Steve Weiss announced that he has been selected to receive the 2007 Governors Volunteer Award.
Old Business: Bio Questions -- Anne O’Malley reminded committee members to submit biography questions. Many committee members had sent them in to Desiree and they were not forwarded.
Committee
Reports: Transportation – Two Roll & Strolls have been scheduled for September 7th and 14th. Commissioners, city staff and other interested parties have been invited and the event promises to be educational and enlightening to all who attend.
Audible Crosswalks are still being worked on by committee.
No update from PDOT on completion of curb ramps. Members of committee are encouraged to write letters in support of moving this project forward for safety and accessibility needs to be met.

Housing: The LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) letter has gone out to the State of Oregon requesting advocacy for people with disabilities.
Housing Inventory through BHCD is progressing.
Education: The Business (Good Business Practices) post card has gone out to 3800 local businesses.
November workshop for education will probably not be ready. With Beth still out we are a bit behind on developing the program.
Communications: The spreadsheet with the complete “interested persons” information is almost completed.
As soon as the Bios are done they will be posted on the Web Site.
Committee is working in conjunction with the Events committee on the awards event, scheduled for Oct 24th.
Events: The Disability Awards event is moving along toward the October 24th date. Ollie Cantos, of the White House will be the featured speaker.
A criterion for winners has been selected and the committee is processing name for winners.
New
Business: UN Convention on Disability- Discussion was had on this subject and David Halseth offered to preview the UN document, make a report and write a resolution for City Council to look at adopting.
Bureau Advisory Membership – Ann Balzell volunteered to sit on this committee.
Community Connect Membership – Ann Balzell volunteered to sit on this committee.
Complaint: Joan brought up a complaint from a person who was told she could not ride the tram due to being equipped with a urinary bag holder. The transportation committee will look into ADA issues surrounding this case.
