Dear Portland Resident,

Do you have a bothersome leaky faucet or drafty windows that make it difficult to stay warm? Have you wondered what to do to prevent a home break-in or a bike break down? Do you want to learn how healthy your house is, or how to get rid of garden pests without using chemicals? Do you want to cut your winter heating, garbage, and water bills?

Please join me at the City of Portland Fix-it Fair where you can get your questions answered and learn how to fix these and other annoying problems! This free event will take place in your neighborhood at:

Roosevelt High School

6941 North Central

Saturday, January 23

8:30 am to 2 pm

The Fix-it Fair features 35 exhibits with experts from neighborhood and City organizations that can help you solve energy, water, recycling, environmental and home safety problems. In addition to exhibits, the Fair includes sixteen free how-to classes covering everything from furnaces to fire alarms. At the Weatherization Workshop you’ll learn how to reduce your heating bills while increasing home comfort, and you can take home free plastic storm windows and weather-stripping. Receive free water saving devices at the Water Conservation Workshop and learn how to cut water and sewer bills by up to $80 each year!

The City of Portland is also proud to offer free insulation to qualifying lower income Portland residents. Our Block-By-Block Weatherization Program adds insulation to the attic, walls, or underfloor of uninsulated houses. Energy specialists will be at the Fair to answer your questions and help you apply.

This winter’s Fix-it Fair promises to be fun and informative. Free child care will be provided. So, please stop in on January 23. If you have questions about the insulation program or the Fix-It Fair, call the City’s Energy Office at 823-7222.

Sincerely,

Erik Sten
