Council discussion regarding ordinance 8 – 5/5/1851
An Ordinance relating to the use of Fire Arms was offered by Council member Robinson.
Upon motion by Council member Hastings it was voted, That the word ‘discharge’ be substituted for ‘shoot’.
Upon motion by Recorder Caldwell it was voted, that the words “of Portland” after the word ‘city’ be stricken out.
Upon motion by Council member Norris, the words “a penalty of not less,” were substituted for the words “no less fine”.
Upon motion by Council member Norris it was voted, that all after the words ‘other offence’ be stricken out.
Council member Norris moved that the word ‘and’ between ‘offence’ and ‘ten’ be stricken out, and, ‘nor more than’ inserted in its stead and the amendment was adopted.
Council member Hastings moved that the word ‘subsequent’ be inserted in leiu (sic) of ‘other’ and the amendment was adopted.
The Ordinance as amended was then adopted upon motion of Council member Hastings as Ordinance Eighth.
