ORDINANCE No. 182497
* Accept a grant in the amount of $448,500 from Federal Emergency Management Agency to purchase Personal Alert Safety Systems (Ordinance)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1. The Council finds
1. Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) applied to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for a grant in the amount of $448,500 to purchase Personal Alert Safety Systems (PASS) on April 1, 2008; and
2. FEMA has notified the City of Portland that it will award a grant for the purchase of the PASS to replace fault-prone systems currently in use on PF&R’s self-contained breathing apparatus in the amount of $448,500;
3. The total budget of the grant project is estimated to be $560,625, of which $448,500 is funded by grant and $112,125 is estimated local match. The match will come from the PF&R operating budget.
NOW THEREFORE, The Council directs:
a. The Mayor is hereby authorized to accept on behalf of the City of Portland a grant from the FEMA for the purchase of PASS in the amount of $448,500.
b. The FY 2008/2009 budget is hereby amended as follows:
GRANTS FUND
Fund 217001 (Please contact the grants office for the correct fund) Business Area – FROO Amount - $448,500
Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists because a delay would unnecessarily delay the City’s ability to perform the activities authorized by the grant; therefore, this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by Council.
