SUBJECT:  * Create a new Nonrepresented classification of Planning and Sustainability Director, which is exempt from classified service. (Ordinance)

The attached ordinance creates a new classification, Planning and Sustainability Director, in order to reclassify an authorized position. This classification is necessary in order to appropriately classify and compensate a position that directs the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability.

Background

This new classification is being established to reclassify a position which will direct the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability. As a Bureau Director, this classification will be excluded from the classified service, as provided by the City Charter and Human Resources Administrative Rules.

There is no direct cost to create the classification. The position to be reclassified already exists in the current budget. The reclassification could result in higher salary costs.

Recommendation

I recommend that the Mayor and City Council approve the creation of this new classification.
