ORDINANCE NO. 182443

Authorize contract for construction of the Vacuum Relief Valve Project (Ordinance)

The City of Portland ordains:

Section 1. The Council finds:

1.  Vacuum relief valve assemblies need to be installed on Portland’s conduits as part of the Conduit Vulnerability Reduction Program. Current valves are sized inadequately to handle anticipated hydraulic conditions.

2.  The Water Bureau has established six different locations along Conduit 4 and one location along Conduit 2 to be the most beneficial sites for the installation of upgraded vacuum relief valve assemblies.

3.  Funding for a portion of this project will be made available in the Bureau’s FY 2008-09 Winter BuMP and the remaining amount will be requested in the FY 2009-10 Budget.

NOW, THEREFORE, The Council directs:

a.  That the Commissioner-in-Charge and Auditor are authorized to execute on behalf of the City a contract with the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for the project described in Section 1 hereof, in accordance with the plans and specifications on file with the Purchasing Agent.

b.  The Mayor and Auditor are hereby authorized to draw and deliver checks payable to administrator, account 567000, Project No 3375, Center Code 18089906 when demand is presented and approved by proper authorities.
