ORDINANCE No. 182202
* Accept a $269,422 Justice Assistance Grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs to reduce crime and improve public safety (Ordinance)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1. The Council finds:
1. The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has made funds available to units of local government under the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program for the purpose of reducing crime and improving public safety. This continues grant funding from the BJA Block Grant program from the late 1990's.
2. The JAG grant supports the purpose area of law enforcement programs. The grant will fund law enforcement support personnel and equipment. The 2009 grant period is October 1, 2007, through September 30, 2011.
3. The City of Portland, Multnomah County, and the City of Gresham were required to apply for and receive funding collaboratively. The City of Portland has been designated by the grantor as fiscal agent for the grant funding. The City of Portland will receive $133,653, Multnomah County will receive $105,013, and the City of Gresham will receive $30,756.
4. The grant does not require a match.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council directs:
a. The Mayor and City Auditor are hereby authorized to accept this grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs.
Section 2. The Council declares an emergency exists because delay in proceeding with this
agreement may result in not receiving funding. Therefore, this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
