ORDINANCE No. 181484

*Allow City Council to hold its regular meeting and recessed sessions at Jefferson High School on January 16 and 17, 2008 (Ordinance; waive Code Section 3.02.010)

The City of Portland ordains:

Section 1.  The Council finds:

1.  Portland City Code Section 3.02.010 requires that regular meetings of the City Council will be held in Council Chambers. That code section further provides that recessed sessions of the Council will be held in Council Chambers except upon motion of the City Council.

2.  For the week of January 14-18, 2008, the Mayor will move his office to Jefferson High School in an effort to provide a “civic immersion” experience for City high school students. By holding City Council meetings scheduled for January 16 and 17, 2008, at Jefferson High rather than Council Chambers, the Council provides a unique and convenient opportunity for high school students and community members to see their City government at work.

NOW, THEREFORE, the Council directs:

a.  The requirement in Portland City Code Chapter 3.02.010 that regular meetings and recessed sessions of the City Council be held in Council Chambers is hereby waived for January 16 and 17, 2008, so that the regular meeting and recessed sessions of the City Council may be held at Jefferson High School.

Section 2.  The Council declares that an emergency exists because delay in the effective date would prevent the City Council from holding its regular meeting of January 16 at Jefferson High School; therefore, this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from its date of passage by Council.
