ORDINANCE No. 181466
* Accept a $150,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance for the Gang Resistance Education and Training local program (Ordinance)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1. The Council finds:
1. The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) grant will provide funding for the Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) Local program.
2. The Portland Police Bureau wishes to accept the BJA GREAT Local grant. The Bureau has received grant funding for the Gang Resistance Education and Training Local program since 1994.
3. The grant award provides a maximum of $150,000 to fund program expenses, including a portion of personnel costs, travel, supplies and intra-agency expenses required to operate the GREAT Local program. The grant period is June 1, 2007, through November 30, 2008.
4. This grant requires a ten percent match, which will be provided as a cash match by additional Police Bureau personnel assigned to the GREAT Local program and an in-kind match with the donation of office space.
NOW, therefore, the Council directs:
a. The Mayor and City Auditor are hereby authorized to accept this grant from the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Administration in a form substantially in accordance with the Grant Award and Special Conditions attached as Exhibit A.
Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists because delay in proceeding with this agreement may result in not receiving funding; therefore, this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
