ORDINANCE NO. 180678
* Apply for a $150,000 Gang Resistance Education and Training Local 2007 grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance for local program expenses (Ordinance)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1. The Council finds:
1. The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) provides funding for Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) Local programs.
2. The City of Portland Police Bureau wishes to apply for a BJA GREAT Local grant in the amount of $150,000. The Police Bureau has received grant funding for the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program since 1994.
3. Portland Police Bureau will use the $150,000 grant funds, if awarded, for personnel, travel, supplies, and contract expenses to operate the GREAT Local program. The grant period is July 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007. Extensions are allowable at no-cost to grantees.
4. This grant requires 10% matching in-kind funds, which will be provided by additional Police Bureau staff time working on the GREAT Local program.
NOW, therefore, the Council directs:
a. The Mayor and City Auditor are hereby authorized to apply for this grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists in that a delay in applying for this grant could prevent or delay the award of BJA GREAT program funding; therefore, this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
