RESOLUTION NO. 36399
Form a drug strategy group for the City of Portland to address the problem of substance abuse using education, prevention, treatment and law enforcement strategies and techniques (Resolution)
WHEREAS, it is recognized that substance abuse is a key and safety problem in
the Portland communities; and
WHEREAS, the accessibility of illicit drugs in our community, and the potency of these illicit substances threatens lives, families, neighborhoods, and society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, substance abuse can be most effectively reduced through a comprehensive drug strategy involving prevention, enforcement, treatment, education, and
alternative opportunities; and
WHEREAS, a drug strategy should include collaborative initiatives for education prevention, treatment, and law enforcement in order to address this community health crisis, and should consider possible funding sources;
NOW, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Mayor’s Office and City of Portland hereby establishes a work group a group of community stakeholders and providers to develop a comprehensive drug strategy committee to combat substance abuse; and
BE IT RESOLVED THAT, this appointed work group shall develop a comprehensive drug strategy to address substance abuse; this strategy should include education, prevention, treatment, policy, and law enforcement elements to be in the best interests of community health and safety; and options for funding these initiatives be developed by this committee.
Work group will be appointed and staffed by the Office of the Mayor.
