ORDINANCE NO. 179892
* Apply for a $581,435 Justice Assistance Grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs to reduce crime and improve public safety (Ordinance)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1. The Council finds:
1. The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has made funds available to units of local government under the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program for the purposes of reducing crime and improving public safety. This continues grant funding from BJA JAG program since 2005.
2. The JAG grant supports the purpose area of law enforcement programs. The grant will fund law enforcement support personnel. The grant period is October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2009.
3. The City of Portland, Multnomah County, and City of Gresham will apply collaboratively for funding, as required by the grant application.
4. The grant does not require a match.
NOW, therefore, the Council directs:
a. The Mayor and City Auditor are hereby authorized to apply for this grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs.
Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists because delay in proceeding with this agreement will result in not receiving funding; therefore this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
