RESOLUTION No. 36306
Adopt the recommendations contained within the Sandy Boulevard Resurfacing and Streetscape Plan (Resolution)
WHEREAS, Sandy Boulevard is an important corridor serving many modes of transportation and is a major route linking Northeast Portland Neighborhoods with the central city; and
WHEREAS, the Project Citizen Advisory Committee developed goals for the plan to: enhance pedestrian safety and convenience; provide good connections between neighborhoods; improve driver safety and convenience; support access to businesses and residential neighborhoods; improve bicycle safety and convenience; increase safety and convenience for transit users; enhance landscaping; and support community identity; and
WHEREAS, the Sandy Boulevard Resurfacing and Streetscape project identifies locations for pedestrian, bicycle, vehicular and transit improvements to be constructed and locations for additional landscaping and street trees to improvement the corridors visual character and function; and
WHEREAS, the Sandy Boulevard Resurfacing and Streetscape Plan is recommended for approval by the project Citizen Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, the City of Portland has received $7,901,742 of Oregon Transportation Investment Act from the Oregon Department of Transportation to make improvements to Sandy Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, the City of Portland has assumed jurisdiction of Sandy Boulevard from the State of Oregon.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Portland recommends adoption of the Sandy Boulevard Resurfacing and Streetscape Plan attached as Exhibit A; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that staff is directed to engage in activities to implement the improvements described in the Sandy Boulevard Resurfacing and Streetscape Plan; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council gratefully acknowledges the excellent work and dedication of the members of the Sandy Boulevard Resurfacing and Streetscape Plan Citizen Advisory Committee and other community members who helped shape the plan through participation in the planning and development process.
