SUBJECT: Establish a new Nonrepresented classification – CIP Planning Supervisor
This ordinance creates a new Nonrepresented classification of Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Planning Supervisor in order to properly classify and compensate a position which will supervise a work unit responsible for planning, costing, scheduling and allocating resources for the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for the Engineering Service Group of the Bureau of Water Works.
Background
The Engineering Services Group within the Water Bureau has reorganized in order to increase the efficiency, expand capacity, and improve the quality of their services. One area of particular interest was their CIP program control system. This position will focus specifically on working with project managers to develop project plans, costs, schedules, and staffing plans to manage the execution of the CIP for the Water Bureau.
We are recommending a Nonrepresented salary range 10 for this classification. An existing position in the Water Bureau would be reclassified to this new classification. The position to be reclassified is currently in a classification with a lower pay grade. The approximate additional cost for this fiscal year is $5,384 and $21,537 for next fiscal year. The additional costs have been budgeted into the Water Bureau’s current and next fiscal year budgets.
Recommendation
I recommend that the Mayor and City Council approve the creation of this new classification.
