SUBJECT:  Establish a new DCTU lead assignment for the Water Bureau

 

The attached Ordinance creates the premium pay assignment of Water Security Specialist, Lead for the Water Bureau’s Emergency Management and Security unit. This premium pay lead assignment is needed to appropriately compensate staff assigned to monitor the work of security staff.

Background

As part of Council’s decision to delay the covered reservoir project, additional funding was provided for the water security program. This included funding for lead work in support of the Security Supervisor. Creating a formal Water Security Specialist, Lead assignment in the classification and compensation system requires this separate action by Council.

 

This action does not create a new position, but allows the Water Bureau to assign lead work at a premium pay rate of 5% above the rate of pay for the Water Security Specialist classification. The cost resulting from this action is the cost of the premium pay only.

 

Recommendation

I recommend that the Mayor and City Council approve the creation of this lead assignment.
