SUBJECT:  Establish a New Nonrepresented Classification - Housing Inspection Supervisor

The attached Ordinance creates a new classification of Housing Inspection Supervisor, in order to classify a position in the Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI). This classification is necessary in order to appropriately classify and compensate the position.

Background

This classification is being established to classify a position in ONI which is responsible for participating in and supervising the work of field inspectors responsible for enforcing the following: minimum City and State standards for residential structures regarding basic equipment, facilities, sanitation, fire safety, and maintenance; the maintenance of outdoor areas and adjacent rights-of-way; and abating dangerous and derelict buildings.

The position to be allocated to this new classification was transferred from BDS to ONI. The new classification allows ONI to reclassify the position from a broader more general classification used by the Bureau of Development Services and into a more specific classification that describes more accurately the type and level of duties assigned to this position in ONI.

The position to be reclassified to this new classifications is already authorized in the FY2004-05 Budget for ONI and allocated to a classification at a higher salary range than the new classification.

Recommendation

I recommend that the Mayor and City Council approve the creation of this new classification.
