RESOLUTION No. 36150
Adopt the “City of Roses” as the City of Portland’s official nickname.
WHEREAS, Charles Paul Keyser, Portland Parks Superintendent from 1917 to 1950, stated that Portland was christened the “City of Roses” by visitors to an Episcopal Church convention which was held in the City of Portland in 1888.
WHEREAS, many residents and visitors currently refer to Portland as the “City of Roses”; and
WHEREAS, the City of Portland has an annual Rose Festival; and
WHEREAS, the City of Portland has referred to Portland as the “City of Roses” in Resolutions establishing the City Bird and the City Song.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Portland’s official nickname is the “City of Roses”.
