SUBJECT:  Establish a New Nonrepresented Classification of Hydroelectric Power Project Manager

The attached Ordinance creates a new classification, Hydroelectric Power Project Manager, in order to reclassify an authorized position in the Water Bureau. This classification is necessary in order to appropriately classify and compensate a position that manages the Hydroelectric Power Project.

Background

This new classification is being established to reclassify a position in the Water Bureau in response to a Request for Reconsideration filed by the affected employee following implementation of the current nonrepresented classification and compensation structure. The employee’s position had been placed in a broader classification. This proposed classification addresses the requirements and responsibilities of the position with more specificity.

The cost of the reclassification will be absorbed within the bureau’s budget allocation. The pay grade for the new classification of Hydroelectric Power Project Manager is the same as the pay grade of the classification to which the position is currently allocated.

Recommendation

I recommend that the Mayor and City Council approve the creation of this new classification.
