ORDINANCE No. 177243
*Clarify and improve procedures for burglary alarm permits (Ordinance; amend Code Chapter 14B.10)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1. The Council finds:
1. An increase in the alarm system permit fee is necessary to recover the costs of administering the alarm user permit program established under P.C.C. 14B.10.
2. An effective and fair alarm user permit program is necessary to provide security to the citizens of Portland while limiting the cost of responding to false alarms.
3. It is necessary to clarify and improve the procedures for revocation of alarm user permits, appeals of false alarm findings, challenges to determinations of false alarm and reinstatement of alarm permits.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council directs:
a. Chapter 14B.10 of the City Code, Burglary and Alarm Systems, is hereby amended by replacing the attached Exhibit 1 for the existing Chapter 14B.10.
b. The fee for a residential Alarm User Permit shall be $25.00.
c. The fee for a commercial Alarm User Permit shall be $125.00.
Section 2. The Council declares that:
1. An emergency exists because of the immediate need to recover the costs of administering the Alarm User Permit system; therefore, this Ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by Council.
