ORDINANCE NO. 177170
* Authorize grant application for the Ecological Business Program to the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency in the amount of $100,000 for water quality and watershed management (Ordinance)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1 the Council finds that:
1. Water quality and watershed management is a key concern for the Portland Region.
2. A successful practice to improve water quality is through collaborative partnerships with the business community.
3. The Bureau of Environmental Services is a key player in the regional effort, the Ecological Business Program.
4. The Ecological Business Program promotes improved business practices through best management practices which protect and enhance the environment while insuring a sustainable Portland business.
5. Funding and in-kind match is not specified, however Environmental Services and other Ecological Businesses Program partners (e.g. Metro, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality) have allocated monies in current approved budgets.
NOW THEREFORE, The Council directs:
a. The Mayor is hereby authorized to request on behalf of the City of Portland to submit a grant application for the Ecological Business Program to the United States Environmental Protection Agency in the amount of $100,000.00.
Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists because to delay accepting these funds would deprive citizens of the benefits these grant funds will provide; therefore this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
