ORDINANCE No. 177153

*  Approve adjustment to pay rate for City Auditor to equal the Commissioner pay rate. (Ordinance)

The City of Portland ordains:

Section 1. The Council finds:

1.  City Human Resources Administrative Rules Section 8.4 Compensation "Compensation for Elected Officials" provides that the salary rate for the Mayor, Commissioners and Auditor shall not be assigned to a salary schedule and shall be established separately by the Council.

2.  In accordance with the policies established by the City Council and based on a review of compensation, the Bureau of Human Resources is recommending an adjustment to the pay rate for the City Auditor.

3.  In recommending an adjustment to the pay rate of the City Auditor, the Bureau of Human Resources took into consideration the increase in program responsibilities of this Office resulting from the: addition of the Ombudsman’s Office and the Portland Multnomah Progress Board; expanded role of the Independent Police Review Board, and increased level of complexity of managing, archiving and allowing easier access to the public of City documents/policies through an E-File system and website.

NOW, THEREFORE, the Council directs:

a.  The following pay rate equal to Commissioner be established:

       803    City Auditor    $84,989    12/18/02

Section 2.  The Council declares that an emergency exists in order that this compensation action may occur without delay; therefore, this ordinance shall be in force and effect from after its passage by the Council.
