ORDINANCE No. 177120
* Apply for a $12,854 grant from the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses Foundation for Portland Fire and Rescue (Ordinance)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1. The Council finds:
1. The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses Foundation (AAOHN) announced a competitive grant for a research proposal to investigate important occupational and environmental health issues. Registered occupational and environmental health nurses are eligible to apply for the grant.
2. Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) has developed a research proposal for a firefighter back injury prevention project. The project is expected to result in healthier firefighters and reduced time loss and medical costs for the City. The program may provide a national model for other agencies.
3. The total budget of the grant project is estimated at $12,854.
4. AAOHN requires no matching funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council directs:
a. The Mayor is authorized to apply to American Association of Occupational Health Nurses Foundation for a grant of $12,854 for the Firefighter Back Injury Prevention Research Project.
Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists because the application deadline for this grant was December 1, 2002; therefore, this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
