ORDINANCE No. 177067
* Apply for a $125,000 grant from the Northwest Neighborhoods Parks and Recreation Fund to build a multi-purpose room at Hillside Community Center. (Ordinance)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1 The Council finds that:
1. This application for $125,000 is for phase two of the multi-purpose room project. In April 2002, Portland Parks & Recreation received an award in the amount of $75,000 from the Northwest Neighborhoods Parks and Recreation Fund to establish the foundation for the multi-purpose room.
2. Hillside Community Center is owned and operated by Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) and is PP&R’s only community center in Northwest Portland. It currently serves in excess of 10,000 people per three-month period.
3. Hillside Community Center receives many requests for classes, activities and community gathering. The Center has been unable to accommodate these requests do to the space limitations.
4. The addition of a multi-purpose room will allow at least another 1,000 community members a term can be served.
5. There is no match required under this agreement.
NOW THEREFORE, the Council directs:
a. The Mayor is hereby authorized to make application to the Northwest Neighborhoods Parks and Recreation Fund in the amount of $125,000.
Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists because the City needs to meet Metro’s timelines for submitting grants, their consideration and award; therefore this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect after its passage by Council.
