ORDINANCE NO. 177049

 

* Accept an $8,000 grant from the Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Weed & Seed Program for the G.R.E.A.T. Families program (Ordinance)

The City of Portland ordains:

Section 1. The Council finds:

 

1.  The Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs Weed & Seed Program is a community-based initiative to demonstrate a multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention and community revitalization. The Weed & Seed strategy includes four basic elements: law enforcement, community policing, prevention/intervention/treatment and neighborhood restoration.

 

2.  The Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Program, (SEUL) is the fiscal agent for the Lents/Brentwood-Darlington Weed & Seed and wishes to contract with the Police Bureau Youth Crime Prevention Division to use Weed & Seed Grant funds to facilitate the GREAT Families program with selected middle school students and their families.

 

3.  SEUL through its Lents/Brentwood-Darlington Weed and Seed grant will reimburse the Portland Police Bureau up to a maximum of $8,000 for expenses incurred in the facilitation of the GREAT Families program for 10 families living in federally subsidized housing.

 

4.  The grant does not require matching funds.

 

NOW, therefore, the Council directs:

 

a.  The Mayor to accept a grant award from the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Weed & Seed program passed through the Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Program.

 

b.  An increase in appropriation for FY 02-03 and transfer of funds for the grant is authorized as follows:

Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists in that any delay will postpone the transfer of funds to the City of Portland; therefore, this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
