ORDINANCE NO. 176978

*  Authorize a contract and provide payment for the purchase of three fire apparatus for Portland Fire & Rescue. (Ordinance)

The City of Portland ordains:

Section 1. The Council finds:

1.  Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) requires three 1500 GPM Triple Combination Pumpers to replace existing aging apparatuses 40, 41 and 42.

2.  Estimated cost of the purchase is $900,000.

3.  Purchase of these apparatuses was approved and funded in the PF&R Fiscal Year 2002-03 adopted budget.

NOW, THEREFORE, the Council directs:

a.  The Commissioner in Charge and the Auditor are authorized to execute a contract with the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for the purchase of three fire apparatuses, in accordance with specifications on file with the Purchasing Agent.

b.  The Mayor and Auditor are hereby authorized to draw and deliver check(s) chargeable to the FY2002-03 budget of Portland Fire & Rescue, 101/12420650, when demand is presented and approved by the proper authority.

Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists because a delay in proceeding with the purchase will unnecessarily deprive the City of benefits of completion of the contract at an early date; therefore, this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
