ORDINANCE No. 176867

 *  Amend Agreement with Sarah Lerner to provide fundraising services (Ordinance; amend Contract No. 33692)

The City of Portland ordains:

Section 1. The Council finds:

1.  In July 2001, the City of Portland entered into Contract # 33692 for $12,123.00 with Sarah Lerner (Lerner) to conduct fundraising services to support fire and safety initiatives identified by the Executive Staff of Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R).

2.  The current contract expired June 30, 2002.

3.  In the past year Lerner’s efforts have raised approximately $85,000 in cash and in-kind contributions for various fire and safety initiatives, including support for the September 11 survivors.

4.  Lerner is currently working on other events to support the Jeff Morris Museum and Fire Learning Center. Those events are scheduled to take place before the end of 2002.

5.  Extending the current contract until December 31, 2002 will allow Lerner to complete those fundraising efforts and will therefore be beneficial to the City.

6.  The additional work will cost $12,000, bringing the total value of Contract # 33692 to $24,123.

7.  Amendment No. 1 to Contract # 33692 is attached, signed by Lerner and approved as to form by the City Attorney.

NOW, THEREFORE, the Council directs:

a.  The Commissioner in Charge is authorized to execute an amendment to Contract No. 33692 with Sarah Lerner, attached hereto as Exhibit A.

b.  The Commissioner in Charge and the Auditor are hereby authorized to draw and deliver warrants chargeable to the appropriate Fire Bureau budget, when demand is presented and approved by proper authorities.

Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists because the existing contract has expired; therefore, this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
