POSITION CONTROL

  

General

An accurate and comprehensive approach to position control is essential to support the City’s budgeting and resource allocation and the redeployment, layoff, classification and position tracking processes.

 

Our position control system is a complete inventory of the City’s positions including position description, funding duration, status within a job classification system and filled status.

 

Positions Approved in the Annual Budget

 

The annual budget, as adopted by the City Council, shall serve as the authority for the number and type of positions assigned to each bureau within the City. The Director of Human Resources, or designee, must approve all additional positions after the budget has been adopted.

 

 

The Director of Human Resources, or designee, is responsible for assuring that all positions approved for hiring are included in the position control inventory.

Expiration of Authorization for Positions

Notice of limited term or temporary appointments that are due to end will be sent to the hiring authority each month. It is the responsibility of the hiring authority to request new authorization for the position or appointment o
