SEARCH AND RESCUE, DISASTER RELIEF AND CIVIL DEFENSE

  

 

Search & Rescue Operations

 

A City employee shall be allowed to participate in a search or rescue operation at the request of any law enforcement agency, the Director of Aeronautics or the United States Forest Service without loss of pay for a period up to five days for each operation. This period may be extended at the discretion of the Commissioner In Charge.

  

 

Disaster Relief

 

The City of Portland does not provide paid leave for disaster relief services under ORS 401.485. An employee who wishes to participate in disaster relief services may request to use accrued vacation or compensatory leave, or may request an unpaid leave of absence.

  

 

Civil Defense

 

Upon approval of the appointing authority, any employee may be absent from work to attend a meeting called in furtherance of civil defense or any war effort providing attendance does not affect their ability to carry out their regular work duties. The Mayor may direct the attendance at such meeting of any employee of the City if the Mayor believes the presence of that person will benefit the City and if the problems to be discussed are of public interest. Reimbursement of expenses for attending such meeting shall be provided.
