ORDINANCE NO. 176668

 

* Authorize application to Environmental Protection Agency for a grant of $45,000 to coordinate development of a Smart Growth Handbook for the North Macadam District. (Ordinance)

 

The City of Portland ordains:

 

Section 1 the Council finds that:

 

1.  The City of Portland is committed to the value of Smart Growth principles and desires to implement these principles in the North Macadam District.

 

2.  Funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is available in the amount of $45,000 for projects “Moving Smart Growth and Brownfields Redevelopment into implementation.”

 

3.  The EPA grant encourages the leveraging of funds. Local contribution in the amount of $69,000 will be provided by the Portland Development Commission in the form of personal services, materials and services appropriated in their FY 02/03 budget.

 

NOW THEREFORE, The Council directs:

 

a.  The Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized to make application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a grant in the amount of $45,000.

 

b.  The Mayor is authorized to provide such information and assurances as are required for the grant period.

 

Section 1. The Council declares that an emergency exists since the application has a deadline; therefore this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
