ORDINANCE NO. 176667
* Amend Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields Showcase grant to carry out environmental assessments in the North Macadam District in the amount of $200,000 (Ordinance)
The City of Portland ordains:
Section 1 the Council finds that:
1. The City of Portland is committed to encouraging the remediation of brownfield sites within the City.
2. The North Macadam District, close to the Central City, has been slow to experience redevelopment in part due past contamination of key sites.
3. Additional funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is available in the amount of $200,000 for projects that assess and develop plans for the clean-up of brownfields.
4. The Portland Brownfield Showcase Program, which currently operates EPA-funded assessment programs on a city-wide basis and for the N. Interstate area, has worked in concert with the Portland Development Commission to develop a proposal for the North Macadam District.
5. This amendment does not require a local match.
NOW THEREFORE, The Council directs:
a. The Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized to accept an amendment to the City’s Brownfield Showcase grant in the amount of $200,000.
b. The Mayor is authorized to provide such information and assurances as are required for the grant period.
Section 1. The Council declares that an emergency exists since the amendment has a deadline; therefore, this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
