ORDINANCE NO. 176633

* Authorize a contract and provide for payment for Elevator Cab Upgrades for five Smart Park Parking Garages (Ordinance)

The City of Portland ordains:

Section 1.  The Council finds:

1.  This project includes all labor, materials and equipment for the upgrade of elevator cabs plus minor repairs to elevator entrances and hoistways for sixteen (16) elevators at five (5) Smart Park parking garages.

2.  The work involves the demolition of existing cabs, fabrication and installation of new cab interiors, and repair and repainting of miscellaneous entranceway and hoistway equipment.

3.  The elevator cab upgrades is estimated to be $480,000 dollars. The upgrade estimate is within the program budget.

4.  The design is complete and the construction documents have gone out to public bid. The bids were due June 18, 2002 and are being reviewed by the Purchasing Agent.

NOW THEREFORE, the Council directs:

a.  The Mayor and the Auditor are hereby authorized to execute a contract with the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for the elevator cab upgrades for five Smart Park Parking Garages, in accordance with the plans and specifications to be filed with the Purchasing Agent.

b.  The Mayor and the Auditor hereby are authorized to draw and deliver check(s) chargeable to the 2002-2003 budget, when demand is presented and approved by the proper authorities.

Section 2.  

The Council declares that an emergency exists because a delay may result in additional expense, and will unnecessarily deprive the City of the benefits of completion of the contract at an early date; therefore this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
