ORDINANCE NO. 176630

* Authorize a contract and provide for payment for the construction of Fire Station 9 (Ordinance)

The City of Portland ordains:

Section 1.  The Council finds:

1.  On November 7, 1998 the citizens of Portland authorized the sale of general obligation bonds for a $61.1 million program to improve city emergency services. Included in the bond was the construction of new fire stations.

2.  Fire Station 9 is the third new fire station to be constructed. The site, located at 1710 SE 39^th Avenue, was approved for purchase by City Council on August 30, 2000.

3.  The 8,128 square foot station will house a two company station (8 firefighters) and their vehicles.

4.  The construction of the station is estimated to be $1.4 million dollars. The construction estimate is within the program budget for the station.

5.  The design is complete and the construction documents are out to public bid.

NOW THEREFORE, the Council directs:

a.  The Mayor and the Auditor are hereby authorized to execute a contract with the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for the construction of Fire Station 9, in accordance with the plans and specifications filed with the Purchasing Agent.

b.  The Mayor and the Auditor hereby are authorized to draw and deliver check(s) chargeable to the 2002-2003 Fire and Rescue Facilities GO Bond Construction Fund budget, when demand is presented and approved by the proper authorities.

Section 2.  

The Council declares that an emergency exists because a delay may result in additional expense, and will unnecessarily deprive the City of the benefits of completion of the contract at an early date; therefore this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
