ORDINANCE NO. 176401

 

*Accept a $46,000 grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation, Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program. (Ordinance)

 

The City of Portland ordains:

 

Section 1. The Council finds:

 

1.  The Oregon Department of Transportation has received funds from the federal Department of Transportation and has made funds available to local governments within the State to continue the commercial motor carrier safety inspection program that started in 1982. This program represents a significant part of the motor safety effort in the City of Portland.

 

2.  The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division has and will continue to conduct these safety inspections. The total grant awarded to the City of Portland for Federal Fiscal Year 2002 is $46,000.

 

3.  The grant requires a matching share of $11,500 that is budgeted in the Traffic Division.

 

4.  The term of the agreement is from October 1, 2001 to September 30, 2002.        

 

NOW, therefore, the Council directs:

 

a.  The Mayor is authorized to sign an intergovernmental agreement and accept this grant award from the Oregon Department of Transportation.

 

b.  An increase in appropriation for FY 01/02 and transfer of funds for the grant award is authorized as follows:

Section 2. The Council declares that an emergency exists in that any delay in this ordinance would cause delay in this important inspection program; therefore, this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage by the Council.
