ORDINANCE NO. 176396

* Accept a grant from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the amount

of $47,100 for revegetation work in the Tualatin National Wildlife Refuge. (Ordinance)

The City of Portland ordains:

Section 1 the Council finds that:

1.  The Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge (the Refuge) was established in 1992, largely as a result of public interest and commitment in creating an urban National Wildlife Refuge in the Portland metropolitan area.

2.  Land management objectives of the Refuge are centered around protection, restoration, and enhancement of riverine floodplains, wetlands, riparian areas, and uplands adjacent to the Tualatin River.

3.  Restoration and protection of these habitats will support conservation of indigenous fish, wildlife, and plants in the Tualatin River Basin. This grant provides funding for eighteen acres of revegetation work within the Refuge.

4.  The grant from the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has no match requirement. USBR is contributing $19,298.00 in funding from the wetlands program, and USFWS is contributing $27,802.00 utilizing an existing MOA.

NOW THEREFORE, The Council directs:

a.  The Mayor is hereby authorized to accept grant funds from the United States Bureau of Reclamation and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in the amount of $47,100.00 for revegetation work in the Tualatin National Wildlife Refuge.
