I am appalled at the Design Commission’s approval of the design. I have been living in the South Waterfront for 10 years. Along with other residents and visitors I daily enjoy the waterfront greenway south of Lane St. to Abernathy St. The City spent about $ 14.5 million and several years to complete this park which included remediation for fish habitat. Finally this stretch of the west side greenway will be finished connecting with the greenway which extends south to the Sellwood Bridge. It is a shame that the Design Commission approved this development particularly the design for the Greenway space. No public amenities are provided and that offers by Prosper Portland and Portland Parks and Recreation have offered funds to facilitate the Greenway design have been refused by the developer. This buildings are too close to the River, the design is unfriendly to the public and is inconsistent with the adjacent segments of the Greenway. Portland is very fortunate to have 2 mi. of landscaped Greenway paths on both sides of the Willamette River connecting with Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Developers should be required to follow the South Waterfront design guidelines and not be provided exceptions which simply increase their profits at the cost of public benefits.

Please disapprove the project as planned and return it to the Planning Department for revisions its Greenway plan and relocation of the buildings further back from the River.

Yours truly,
