Hi Staci,
As a South Waterfront resident, I am very concerned that the city plan mandating low rise near the river and high rise away to preserve views and optimize aesthetics is being grossly violated by this project design. At no time has this gross deviation been addressed adequately by anyone connected with the project. Frankly, it is being ignored by officialdom in a way that is an affront to dedicated citizens and tax payers of Portland. This is not just and really makes me mad.
I testified at the Design Commission in this regard (closeness of the north high rise to the river) in addition to emphasizing the poor design (massive east-west wall casting huge shadow on the Osprey and Ardea most of the day).
Really, I won't be affected by this matter personally because I have a north view in the John Ross. But it is a matter of huge significance to the design principles of the South Waterfront and all the people that live and work there.
I am a physician with an extensive background in city planning in San Francisco before going into medicine.
At the very least, I would like to hear an honest answer to the question of why this project is being allowed to violate city planning design concepts.
Thank you,
