Whereas, mothers, fathers, sisters, and grandparents have their own day, brothers have yet to be recognized with a day in their honor; and

Whereas, the brotherhood of men reaches beyond blood lines into communities, the military, work, friendships and even fraternities; and

Whereas, Oregon brothers have uniquely and significantly contributed to the economy, community and culture of the region; and

Whereas, the Widmer brothers, who are proud representatives of the state and its flourishing craft beer movement, seek to honor brothers everywhere by sponsoring this occasion;

Now, therefore, I, Tom Potter, Mayor of the City of Portland, Oregon, the “City of Roses,” do hereby proclaim August 11th to be

Brother’s Day

in Portland, and encourage all residents to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of

  Oregon brothers.
