Whereas, the Honorable Tom Potter served as Mayor of the City of Portland, Oregon from January
2004, to December 2008; and
Whereas, Mayor Potter carried out the duties and responsibilities of the office for which he was elected
with an abiding commitment to the people of Portland and with honor and dignity; and
Whereas Mayor Potter opened the doors of City Hall and invited all people to the table building a
legacy of welcome and transparency; and
Whereas, Mayor Potter’s commitment to education and youth fostered the development of a spirit of
volunteerism, support and innovative programs to engage Portland’s youth with the City at large, knowing the future would be shaped by these very individuals; and
Whereas, Mayor Potter extended his leadership beyond the City of Portland, across the State of
Oregon, the United States and abroad by serving as an ambassador of the City on behalf of Portland industries, educational partnerships, cultural exchanges, tourism and sustainability; and
Whereas, the Honorable Tom Potter through his exemplary public service has brought great credit upon
himself, his family and his community;
Now, therefore, I, Dan Saltzman, President of the City Council of the City of Portland, Oregon,
the “City of Roses,” do hereby proclaim that the people of Portland do convey their sincere respect and appreciation to Mayor Tom Potter and declare today, December 24 to be
Tom Potter Day
And encourage all Portlanders to pause a moment during this busy holiday season to send Mayor Potter their best wishes.
