Whereas, Tom Geil founded the Portland Community Bowling Association in 1979, becoming the first

organized Gay community sporting organization; and

 

Whereas, The Portland Community Bowling Association was his vision to create an environment of fun

entertainment uniting women and men of the Gay & Lesbian community, along with their friends and families; and

 

Whereas, for three decades The Portland Community Bowling Association has provided unity, fellowship,

and communication; dedicating itself to creating an environment of pride and a sense of belonging to all community members; and

 

Whereas, the Portland Community Bowling Association League has often held the distinction as being the

largest league in the state of Oregon; and

 

Whereas, for 30 years The Portland Community Bowling Association/League has been providing the Gay

& Lesbian community with a fun, unifying sporting event; and

 

Now, therefore, I, Tom Potter, Mayor of the City of Portland, Oregon, the "City of Roses" do hereby

declare Sunday, January 13, 2007 as an official

 

Day of Appreciation for

Tom Geil and the Portland Community Bowling Association/League
in Portland and encourage all residents to observe this day and to celebrate 30 years of history.
