Whereas, Portland honors its residents who show leadership and devote their lives to working for the betterment of the community; and
Whereas, Jamie Partridge has a extensive background in service, advocacy, and engagement in the area of social justice in Portland; and
Whereas, Jamie Partridge has served the Portland not only in his capacity as a mail carrier over the past 24 years, but also as an active member and leader in the National Association of Letter Carrier’s Branch 82
Whereas, Jamie Partridge was a co- founder of the Portland Chapter of Jobs With Justice, a national campaign for worker’s rights and economic justice; and continues to donate his time as a volunteer; and
Whereas, Jamie Partridge has also worked on behalf of all Oregonians in his efforts with others to advocate and organize for the increase of the minimum wage in his capacity as a leader of the Oregon Livable Wage Coalition; and
Whereas, Jamie Partridge night after night continues to donate his time and energy into supporting various social justice efforts throughout Portland, including volunteering for organizations like Stand For Children, KBOO Radio, Rainbow Coalition, Community Alliance of Tenants, Northwest Treeplanters and Farmworkers United, Oregon Action, and a multitude of others; and
Whereas, Jamie Partridge continues to be a leader in the areas of advocacy for education, healthcare, labor, social justice, and racial justice; and
Whereas, Jamie Partridge has time and again demonstrated his vision and commitment, as well as his generosity and humility;
Now, therefore, I, Tom Potter, Mayor of the City of Portland, Oregon, the “City of Roses,” do hereby declare December 3, 2008 as an official
Day of Appreciation for Jamie Partridge
And encourage all residents to observe this day.
